Dear OJR parents, You already may be familiar with Art Goes to School (AGTS) through your children, but if you would like to find out more, we hope this site will be of benefit. On the following pages you will find:
- Our Mission Statement
- Brief description of the elements of art we use for discussion
- Call for volunteers to join us
Each year an AGTS volunteer presents a carefully chosen portfolio of art reproductions to the elementary school students of the district. We spend an hour with the children talking about art. Volunteers meet for a few hours each week in the fall to learn together about the artists and paintings. Then they prepare for classroom presentations. The information that follows will give you an idea of how we prepare to present the art to the children and the discussion topics we have with the children.
If this sounds like an activity that you would find rewarding, please contact me about attending one of our meetings to “try us out.” Our meetings are fun, the participation is rewarding and the food is great. We are always in need of more volunteers.
Each elementary school in the district has an AGTS representative who would be happy to talk to you. Please feel free to contact them, or call me for more information.
Our participation in AGTS is made possible by the generous sponsorship of the OJR Friends of the Arts. We wish to thank them for their support. We hope you find the following information interesting.
Sincerely,
Chris Ripnak OJR Chapter Chairperson |
