WELCOME to the Owen J Roberts HIGH SCHOOL PTSA


Dear OJR High School Parents and Students,

The Owen J. Roberts High School Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PTSA) is an organization of parents, teachers, students, staff and administrators working to improve the school environment,  promote communication between home and school, thereby enabling student achievement.

We will hold PTSA meetings on the following dates: Thursday, September 16, 2010: Thursday, November 11, 2010; Thursday, January 13, 2011; Thursday, March 10, 2011 and  Wednesday, May 4, 2011; all meetings are at 7 PM in the LGI  at the High School. PTSA meetings provide an opportunity to share your ideas and concerns. At the September meeting our high school principal, Dr. Marchini will be available for questions about the new school year. At both the September and November meetings we are planning to have speakers regarding adolescent education. In January, a panel of parents who have been through the college admission process and representatives of our Guidance Office will share their experiences and answer your questions.  May is our annual meeting for elections of officers and Council Delegates, approval of budget and the next year’s meeting schedule. If any special meetings are planned an e-mail will be sent via Skylert and posted on the website. Everyone is welcome to attend any and all meetings. Only PTSA members are allowed to vote.  IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOUR LEGIBLE E-MAIL ADDRESS BE PROVIDED ON YOUR MEMBERSHIP FORM.

Your six dollar membership fee is tax deductible and supports the students of our community. It has increased by one dollar this year due to an increase in the state dues.  Joining the PTSA entitles you to vote on important issues concerning our school. You will also be placed on our email list to receive up to date information regarding our school and our students. The PTSA is not supported by traditional fundraisers; instead we are asking each family to consider making a donation of $15 or more. Your donation will help support PTSA activities, such as Senior Breakfast, Reflections, Teacher Appreciation, class stipends, parenting programs and educational programs for students. Seniors who wish to apply for one of the $500 OJR PTA Council Scholarships must be PTSA members. 

Our PTSA also participates in the National PTA Reflections program which provides students with a way to express themselves through the arts. Students may enter in the categories of Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography and Film/Video Production. The theme for this year is “Together We Can……” and entry due dates will be listed on the PTSA website and announced and entry forms will be available in the main office and on the website.

In the spring PTSA hosts a Post Prom Celebration to provide a safe alternative to the usual and often dangerous after prom activities. If you would like to make a donation to the Post Prom Celebration, space is available on the membership form. More information about the Post Prom Celebration will be available at PTSA meetings and at upcoming Post Prom Meetings.  The first post prom meeting will be on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the LGI.  Post Prom will be supported this year by the Fashion Show. Only parent members of the High School PTSA may have a student participate in the FASHION SHOW.  Also Owen J. Roberts GOLF UMBRELLAS will be available for purchase to support the Post Prom.  See the website for an order form.  Orders are due by September 30th .

If you are interested in volunteering your time, joining the PTSA or making a donation, please complete and return the membership form on the website as soon as possible, by September 22, 2010. We will accept your membership, donations and volunteering at any time: our membership drive extends throughout the school year.
