What is Indoor Percussion?
The Indoor Percussion Ensemble is OJR’s only competitive musical group, designed to take the
fundamentals learned in marching band and elevate them to the highest level of performance
and execution.
Each season begins with the staff selecting a theme or storyline well in advance. From there,
students collaborate to develop these ideas into a complete 5–6 minute musical and visual
production that blends pit percussion and drumline. Performers present a carefully
choreographed show incorporating music, movement, and theatrical elements.
The production continues to evolve throughout the season as the ensemble refines and
enhances its performance. The OJR Indoor Percussion Ensemble competes with the
Mid-Atlantic Percussion Society (MAPS) across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as at the
Regional and National Winter Guard International (WGI) Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
Competitions are live performances held at various schools in the region, running from February through the end of April.
